Send Annie to Space Camp
Let’s see, the first hobby site I want to highlight is a blog I set up for my daughter, Annie. She wants to go to Space Camp and frankly, $1,000 is a bit steep for me. So, I hit on the idea of using a blog to “make” the money. Annie is an experienced blogger and her knowledge of html and the GIMP open-source image program is scary for a 9-year old. She also enjoys space, and was checking out related books from the library in the first grade.
So, we set up the site (Send Me To Space Camp) and modified a plugin that facilitates donations through Paypal, as well as signed up for Scratchback so bloggers and webmasters can donate $5 and get a little ad for a period of time. Annie is writing posts a couple times a week that all have a space theme. We have a list of posts that will require her to do some research and write short profiles of things like planets and space flight pioneers, as well as some experiments we’re going to video and upload. So, she’s going to get some educational benefit from the project, and hopefully we can get the word out to enough people so she can raise the money she needs.
So, um, yeah, head on over there and donate… please?And/Or, if you’re a blogger and would rather write about it, we’d really appreciate that also. Thanks!
